  • Question of the month for May: What is the only US state whose name can be typed on just one row of keys?

  • All yearbook orders are due by Monday, June 18. Order one now before the supply runs out. Contact Mrs. Brown for more information. Yearbooks will not be sold after Monday, June 18.
  • Attention all varsity and JV athletes...There will be a dinner on Wednesday, June 6 at 6pm for all high school athletes. We will be honoring our Senior athletes at this time. Parents of Senior athletes are also welcome. Please notify Mr. Blekeski or your coach if you plan on attending.
  • Attention 8th graders: the 8th Grade Formal is upon us! All permission slips and money are due by Monday, June 4th. Please see Mrs. Palmeri or Mrs. Strzykalski for any questions.
  • Attention all High School students are you in need of community service hours? Then your in luck! Donate any type of soda and/or water for the 8th Grade Formal and receive hours. Please see Mrs. Palmeri for details.
  • Today after school at 3:15 the Tombstones will take on the Tornadoes and at 4:00 the Sharks will attempt to take down the undefeated Knights. All students are invited to come watch.
  • Reminder: Middle School students - permission forms for Frog Hollow are due tomorrow.

  • The track team turned in some big performances at the central New Jersey sectionals over the weekend. Sophomore Bryan Pena inched closer to the sub 5 minute barrier in the mile running 5:01 while freshman Jessica Henry turned in two big PRs in the 800 meters and the 400 meter hurdles breaking her own school record for the event. Kailie Arsenault had a very good sectionals lowering her PRs and school records in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Jack Lukie became only the 4th runner in school history to individually qualify for states when he placed 6th in the mile in a PR time of 4:42. MaryAnn Walsh also qualified for states by placing 6th in the 2 mile in a season best time of 13:06. Congratulations to the team on a great season and good luck to Jack and MaryAnn at states.

  • In intramural hockey yesterday, the Tombstones defeated the Sharks lead by Stephen McLaughlin and Jacob Ross. The Knights defeated the Tornadoes with John McCleery leading the way with 5 goals to remain the only undefeated team at 4 and 0. Games will continue tomorrow with the Tombstones v. Tornadoes at 3:15 and the Knights v. the Sharks at 4:00.

  • Intramural hockey is back today after school. At 3:15 the Knights will take on the Tornadoes, and at 4:00 the Sharks will take on the Tombstones. All students are welcome to come and watch!

  • Ms. Torretta wants to thank all the students that spread some kindness this week. That being said, if your order was incorrect, please see her at room 435. Don't forget, a smile goes a long way!

  • Our prom was terrific last night. Thank you chaperones and Ms. Sherman for all her work organizing the event.
  • Breakfast for juniors and seniors will begin during period one in the cafeteria. All juniors and seniors should report to the cafeteria for period one.

  • Roar! Today is the last day of picking up orders for the Swedish Fish Sea Shell Sale! Tomorrow we deliver, and that is it! The NJHS hopes you have felt all the good vibes. Let's continue to spread kindness in our daily lives!
  • On Friday, 5/25/18, we will have an after the prom breakfast for our juniors and seniors. Food will be served in our cafeteria during period one. French toast, egg, pork roll and cheese sandwiches, hash browns, watermelon, fruit, muffins as well as drinks will be provided. The breakfast will be only period one. Periods two and three will have opportunities for the juniors and seniors to use the gymnasium, courtyard, cafeteria and if weather permits the field behind the school.
  • Any high school student leaving early today, a few reminders: the time is not excused, in order to attend the prom, you need to be present through period five, if you are 18 years of age, sign out in the main office, if you are 17 or younger, report to the media center and sit on the middle school side to wait for pick up, if someone other than your parent/guardian is picking you up, the main office needs to have a note from your parent/guardian now. Please arrive at 6:00 pm by the auditorium entrance. The fist bus will board at 6:15 pm.

  • Student Council General Membership meeting today. Please meet in the Media Center.
  • History was made last night at the Middle School GMC Track championships when 8th grader Rafael Albarran became the youngest county champion in school history. Rafael led wire to wire taking home the title of fastest middle school miler in the county with a blazing fast time of 5:05. Rafael’s performance not only won him the title but he broke one of the longest standing records in school history which had stood since 2015 and his time also makes him the 7th fastest miler in South Amboy history, even when compared to the high school. Rafael followed up his title winning performance in the mile by placing second in the 800 meters later in the meet to win his second medal of the day. Other great performances were turned in by Sieanna Cabral who broke the school record in the 400 meters in just her first time running that distance as well as a new school record in the 4x100 meter relay turned in by the team of Esperanza Mojica, Vera Bacsoka, Sieanna Cabral and Valeria Moura. Other PRs were established by Kenny Herman, Jonathan Moakler, Kyle Cooke, Joe Jamolawicz, Elijah Perez, Karissa Orsine, Emily Kamor, Chrys Rodriguez and Gwen Kennedy. Congratulations to the entire middle school team on a great season.
  • Students for ASVAB Testing please report to room 329 following homeroom.
  • Yesterday in intramural hockey, the Sharks picked up their first win of the season with Shane Murphy scoring two goals. The Knights defeated the Tombstones in the second game. The Knights are the only undefeated team left in the SAHL after the Tombstones could not get more than 3 goals passed the "The Great Wall of Marcus".
  • Have you purchased a Swedish Fish Sea Shell candy gram yet? If you have a balloon on your locker, please do not remove it until the end of the day. Thank you for helping the NJHS spread some kindness.Friday is the last day.

  • Student Council Executive Board meeting today after school in Room 106 at 2:40.Student Council General Membership meeting Wednesday, May 23. Please meet in the Media Center.
  • Summer is near so spread some cheer. Place an order during our Swedish Fish Sea Shell Sale. Please make sure flyers went out and see to it that an NJHS member picks up your order.

  • The track team had a huge meet of PRs at the “Night of Miles” last evening at Holmdel High School. Captain Roushmi Akther started the night off with a 3 second PR crossing the line in 7:40. Sophomore MaryAnn Walsh took to the track a few minutes later to turn in her own PR performance breaking the 6 minute barrier with a time of 5:59. Later in the evening, Senior Dan McDonald added to the string of PRs by running his own in a time of 5:13. In the same race, Sophomore Bryan Pena made a serious run at the 5 minute barrier turning in a huge 18 second PR finishing in 5:02. Following Bryan’s big performance, sophomore Abraham Calderon became just the 5th runner in school history to run a mile faster than 5 minutes when he turned in a very impressive time of 4:53. Abe’s performance puts him in an elite club with South Amboy running legends Patrick Walsh, Joe Wells, Ben Henry and Jack Lukie. The night concluded with junior Jack Lukie running a very fast PR of 4:42 moving him into third place all time in school history.
