Dear Parents, Guardians and Athletes,

Registration for HS Girls Varsity Soccer has been extended to 3:00 pm on 09-17-20. If interested, please visit the South Amboy Athletic's Page for registration details. Depending on the number of athletic registrations will determine if we'll be playing against schools within our division or yielding a developmental athletic conditioning program.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Two items:

1) For Back to School Night on 9/17/2020, please use the Zoom link information I forwarded via email to log on to the 6:00 pm presentation.

Reminder: for each individual class visit, please use the period schedule for the evening I attached to the email. Please have your child log in to each class meeting so you can see the teacher's presentation. If there are two parents not in the same household wanting to log in, the parent not with the child should ask him/her for the school log in information used. That parent would need to login using his/her child's login information.

Please expect our teachers to explain the class practices, work expectations, etc. The presentation will be about how their classes are conducted. Teachers will refrain from answering questions related to a specific child. If you have questions about your child's progress, we want to answer them; that is best done during a parent conference.

2) Senior Photos: I communicated with LifeTouch today. Correction from prior notification: the two dates already scheduled for senior portraits will go as planned. Those dates are: 9/21/2020 and 11/3/2020. We will be adding additional dates and parents will be contacted regarding scheduling senior portraits.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the school so we can assist you.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Some important happenings at the MHS:

Back to School Night is this Thursday beginning at 6:00p.m. At that time, I will have a link available for you to attend the 6:00 p.m. presentation. After that, we will have you visiting your child’s classes, following his/her schedule. Please have your child log on just as he/she would for class during the day using the school email address. We will follow the period schedule that was attached to my weekly email. All your child will need to do is log in to each Google Meet so you can see each teacher's live presentation.

Open House: you may join your child on Thursday for periods two and three as he/she goes to the virtual classrooms. Period two begins at 8:49 a.m and period three at 9:25 a.m.Our voting students: I emailed all juniors and seniors with information about voter registration. If your child is 18 or will be by the November election, please encourage him/her to register. Reach out to us if you have any questions.

Student Photos: I have been in contact with LifeTouch. Given the pandemic, we are rescheduling all photos, including senior portraits. I will be working with them this week looking at November dates. We will have photos, especially for our graduating class; the planning of such may be a little different. Here is a link to their procedures being used to ensure proper cleaning and social distancing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LevtvXI9l2Q&feature=youtu.be                      I will be following up shortly with more information.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the school so we can assist you.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe

Members of Our School Community,

Today is an important day in our country's history. On this day in 2001, we lost many Americans to the attacks on our World Trade Center in New York, our country's Pentagon as well as a plane that was downed in a field in Pennsylvania when the passengers fought back against the terrorists hijacking the plane.

Many Americans, many heroes died that day. Many everyday Americans sacrificed their safety, some their lives for their fellow Americans. Many first responders: Police, Fire, First Aid, Paramedics, valiantly went in to harm's way for their fellow Americans.

Today let us remember what we as a nation experienced. The bravery and selflessness of our fellow countrymen should never be overlooked or forgotten.

Please take a moment of silence in remembrance.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe

Parents/Guardians,

Some points of interest for this week:

1) Reach out if you have any questions about how your children are logging on. We had a lot of success last week. A thank you to those who called in for help and were patient as we assisted. We like to help; that's why we are here!

2) Mark Your Calendars for Back to School Night on 9/17, and Open House on 9/17 and 9/18. More information to follow. They will be in a virtual format.

3) Information from the Office of Emergency Management:

September is National Preparedness Month, and the Middlesex County Office of Health Services would like help residents embrace this year's slogan of "Disasters Don't Wait, Make Your Plan Today." Even though our team can't be out in the community doing our usual presentations to engage our residents in preparedness activities this year, we've teamed up with our Communications Department and will be sharing tips on Middlesex County's social media feeds like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The pandemic has definitely changed the way we live our lives, but you can still celebrate National Preparedness Month by taking one or all of the following (socially distanced) steps:
* Get a Kit
* Make a Plan
* Be Informed
* Get Involved

These simple measures as well as more detailed guidance are listed on our websites for Emergency Preparedness and Hurricane Preparedness. Another great resource are these videos highlighting how to plan for emergencies while staying safe from COVID-19.

(view them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL720Kw_OojlLuAAL5jic2jDQHsomSq-TG)

After viewing the videos, take a moment to register to win a 3-day "Grab and Go" Emergency Kit by clicking the following link before September 30th. http://bit.ly/MiddlesexPrepares2020 (Only one entry per valid email address, contest open to Middlesex County residents ages 18 and up. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 5th)

With these simple preparations, you can be ready for the unexpected, and be able to devote more of your attention to what always matters most - the safety of you and your loved ones. As always, we thank you for your partnership and dedication to the health and safety of the residents of Middlesex County.

Thank you,

Dr. McCabe

Dear Parents/Guardians,

You may use your child's schedule at this time to find all of his/her Google Classroom Codes. Please find your child's teachers, go to their teacher pages, locate the tab on the left called Google Classroom Codes. Click on that and you will find the codes each teacher has for his/her specific periods. Your child will use them to enter into Google Classroom for each of his/her classes.

Note: middle school Physical Education classes meet four times a week. The fifth day your child will have Personal Finance, Art or Music. The day of the week and the course being provided is outlined on student schedules. Please check this carefully as we updated it this morning.

Reminder: period one is also homeroom.

Also, you can find supply needs here: http://mhs.sapublicschools.com/for_parents/school_supply_list

Please email your child's counselor if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe

Parents/Guardians,

We begin this week! We are all aware that Thursday is our first day of school for students with a prompt 8:13 am start.

Some things to do this week:

*Monday, if you requested one, please pick up your Chromebook. Note: the district has requested that each family        borrowing a Chromebook provide a check/cash in the amount of $25.00 to insure the Chromebook. If you have            multiple children and your family is borrowing multiple Chromebooks, it is still only $25.00 total for the family.            Families on free/reduced lunch will have the fee waived. We also have a payment plan option for parents.

*Wednesday: please follow the directions I shared in my weekly email to help get your child logged in to all of              his/her Google Classrooms.

*We include directions to allow parents to become guardians in Google Classroom; it is at the end of the document with the directions for Google Classroom. On Thursday our teachers will assist each student to sign his/her parents up for this. Then, you will be sent an email invite to the email address we have registered with Parent Access. If you accept the invite, you will be able to view a summary of your child’s progress (submitted assignments) in Google Classroom. Once you become a guardian for one class you will be a guardian in all of his/her classes.

*Reminder: students in grades 7-12 received email invites to orientations being held on Thursday.

*Ask for help:to some of us in the community, navigating through Google Classroom might be challenging; we are        here to help you. Reach out to a teacher, counselor or administrator if you need assistance; we enjoy helping.

*Parents/Guardians of Athletes: please be familiar with the NJSIAA Fall Covid 19 Guidelines. I shared them in           my weekly email.

*Contacting the school: please use email as your main source of contact when reaching out to the school.

*Check email: please check your email often. Emailing is how we will reach out to you most of the time.

*Check Parent Access: please check your child’s progress in Genesis regularly and email his/her teachers if you           have any questions.

If you need assistance, please reach out so we can assist you.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe
