Dear Parents/Guardians, Important happenings at the MHS: (2/1/2021) Report cards for marking period two will be available this week. I will send a notification once they are on Parent Access. Parent Teachers Conferences are set for 2/10/21 and 2/11/21; both will be short session days for our students. You may login to Parent Access to schedule a conference with any of your child’s teachers at this time. Please do so by this Thursday, 2/4/2021, so our staff can prepare. This is important: each teacher will send you an email for the virtual meeting. The email will be sent to you, using the email address we have in Genesis, as well as your child’s school email address. The teacher will send you a Google Meet link in the email. You will click on that link at the date and time of the meeting using your child’s email address. Please do not use your own email address. Our system will only work with school email addresses. The link will allow you, in essence, to enter the teacher’s room. The teacher may have a meeting before yours and a meeting after. If you arrive early, the teacher will be notified, kind of like knocking on the door, but he/she will not allow you entrance until the specified time. Once he/she is available, you will be admitted to the meeting. Once your time is complete, each meeting is five minutes, you will leave to allow another parent to have his/her meeting with the teacher. There is a one minute break in between each meeting time. Parent/Teacher Meetings, what should I ask? There are a multitude of questions a parent might ask; here are some simple guiding questions I recommend:    Is my child performing at grade level?    What are my child’s strengths? Weaknesses?    What can my child do to improve academically?    What can I do to help my child improve academically? Athletics: A reminder that our South Amboy MHS website is your one stop for all sports related inquiries and correspondence. Here is the link for your reference: http://mhs.sapublicschools.com/athletics If you visit the site and still have a question, please call the school so we can assist you. Covid Questionnaire: although we are not yet returning to in person instruction, the district requests all parents to complete these daily. Please check your email often. Emailing is how we will reach out to you most of the time. Teachers will use this as a first line of communication regarding your child’s academic progress. If you receive an email, please reply so the teacher knows you have read the email. If not, the teacher will need to then call you. Check Parent Access: please check your child’s progress in Parent Access regularly and email his/her teachers if you have any questions. The PTO Virtual Book Fair is coming on 2/22/2021. More details to follow as the date approaches. Looking ahead: 2/10/21: short session - evening parent/teacher conferences 2/11/21: short session - afternoon parent/teacher conferences 2/12/21 to 2/15/21 - schools closed for President’s Weekend. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions. Dear Parents/Guardians, I emailed all of my students the below notification this evening. I want to make sure you are aware. I am seeking your support to ensure all of our students are doing their best while on virtual instruction. If you have any questions, please reach out to me. Thank you, Dr. McCabe Dear Students, I enjoyed seeing working, smiling faces during my class visits this week. It is a lot more enjoyable than being by myself in my office in a mostly empty school. However, it has come to my attention that many students are not turning their cameras on while in class. This was something I noticed when making my visits. When we first began virtual instruction, our notification to you (here is a link to the notification: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CAYWLIKy6GizzuFgvXAgUaRnW3k1PQMjSbFn2JhUoAE/edit?usp=sharing ) included instructions to keep your cameras on while in class. There are many reports from the community that our students are actually logging on, keeping their cameras off, and doing other things not related to classwork. This needs to stop immediately. As of Friday, 1/8/2021, if your camera is not on, you will be marked absent. Mr. Zalocki and I will be visiting classes and ensuring students have cameras on.  A big thank you to all of the students who are doing their best; I appreciate it. We need to all be doing the best we can during this unusual time. Thank you, Dr. McCabe
