Dear Parents/Guardians, Some important happenings at the MHS: Happy New Year and welcome back. The first day of school for the new year is Wednesday, 1/2/19. There will be a Board of Education reorganization meeting on Wednesday, 1/2/19, at 6:00 pm. Vice Principal/Athletic Director: many of the members of our school community are already aware that Mr. Blekeski will be leaving us in the middle of January. Mr. Blekeski has been with our school since 2001 when he began as a teacher. He also served as a coach for middle school boys and varsity girls soccer, and middle school boys basketball. He was also the 2008 class advisor and National Junior Honor Society advisor prior to becoming our VP/AD in 2013. We wish him well as he leaves to take an administrative position in another district. Mr. Frank Zalocki will be working as our new Vice Principal/Athletic Director. Mr. Zalocki came to us this year as our Instructional Coach. His experience includes serving as a Teacher, Data Analyst for a school district and a Turn Around/School Improvement Coach for the New Jersey Department of Education. His work as an Analyst and Turn Around Coach focused on supporting schools in need to use assessment data to positively impact student performance. During his time as a teacher, he also served as a high school basketball and track coach. We welcome Mr. Zalocki to our school in his new role as our VP/AD. Attendance Counts: we have been focusing a good deal of attention on attendance both this year and last. We noted an improvement in our attendance rate last year and are grateful to our school community for supporting students coming to school regularly; we like having them present. As we approach the halfway mark of the school year, there are only 18 days left in the second marking period, we ask for your continued support in this endeavor. Student attendance is linked to school success.  Being on time: most of our students are prompt, thank you! We believe being on time regularly helps prepare our students for success in many areas in their lives. I ask that parents check Parent Access not only for student performance, but also attendance and lates. There are consequences for lates (in addition to disciplinary actions) that include a loss of privileges if too many are accrued. Five per marking period will result in a loss of privileges for the marking period. Twenty total in a year results in a loss of privileges for the entire school year. We want all of our students to have accesses to clubs, teams, dances, trips, etc. and avoid losing such due to too many lates to school. Please monitor attendance and lates via Parent Access and, if you notice a problem, call us so we can assist you. We rather be proactive. Looking ahead: We begin Benchmark testing on 1/14/19 PTO meeting on 1/16/19 Schools Closed for Martin Luther King Day on 1/21/19 Last day of marking period two is 1/28/19. Thank you, Dr. McCabe
