What's Happening at the MHS??? (Week of 10/7/19) 
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Some important happenings at the MHS:

*Interims for marking period one will be available this week. An announcement will be sent out once they can be viewed on Parent access.

*Reminder - Dual Credit Classes with MCCC (High School Scholars):  Forms and payment due by 10/15/19. Please see form attached to my weekly email. Contact guidance if you have any questions.

*Wear Blue on Monday to help Stomp Out Bullying: 
South Amboy Middle/High School pledges to STOMP OUT BULLYING. October is National Bullying Prevention Month and we ask you, our students and faculty, to wear BLUE on Monday, October 7th. Blue Up on October 7th with South Amboy Middle/High School!

*Athletic registration for winter Sports: The deadline to submit all Winter athletic paperwork has been extended to October 25, 2019. When submitting physicals, please mail or hand in a hard copy to Nurse Housman at the middle/high school. In addition, please complete and submit the online registration through our athletic registration tab. Know that no athlete will be able to participate in athletics without both of these documents. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Zalocki.

*AP Testing - this is important! The deadline for AP payment submission is Nov. 12. Checks are to be made out to South Amboy High School. Please indicate the name of each AP assessment on the note section of the check. Know that each AP exam is $94. All checks are to be hand delivered to Ms. Witte in the Guidance Department. Students are to register for AP exams through the College Board Website using their online account. 

*Get out the Vote. We had a special presentation by Mayor Henry this week for our seniors. Our Mayor presented information about voter registration, eligibility requirements, the role of a citizen and the importance of voting, as well as where and when to vote. Our seniors were also emailed this important information and can visit this website: https://vote.gov/ to find out more about voting and to consider registering to vote online.   

*Juniors may park on campus:
the school opened the availability of student parking permits to juniors. Juniors who are interested should complete the permit application (they are available in the main office) and submit required paperwork with the main office. Juniors should not park on campus until provided a permit. 

*Youth Advisory Council: It is that time of the year again! Applications for Congressman Pallone’s Youth Advisory Council. Our high school students should consider this opportunity. Please see flyer and application attached to my weekly email.

*Presentation for 18 yrs. and older on 10/9/19:"Current Adolescent Trends: Opiates and Extractions." From 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the South Amboy Resource Center.

*The PSATs are coming on 10/16/19:10th grade students will be participating in the PSAT/NMSQT Assessment. This assessment serves as a practice test for the SAT that students have the option of taking their junior year as a graduation and college acceptance requirement. Know that the PSAT/NMSQT Assessment doesn’t count as an official SAT score as it’s only purpose is to provide students with exposure to the SAT. For further information, please contact Mr. Gonsalves or Ms. Witte in the Guidance Department.  

Looking Ahead:

*10/14/19: School closed for Columbus Day

*10/15/19: Dual Credit forms and payment for MCCC credit due.

*10/16/19: 8th grade cap and gown photos as well as retakes for underclassmen.

*10/16/19: PSATs are coming for grade 10

*10/23/19: Presentation - "Technology Dependence and the Impact on Substance Abuse, Anxiety, Depression and     Suicide." From 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the South Amboy Resource Center.

*10/24/19: Middle School Halloween Dance

*10/25/19: Haunted Hallway and PTO Fall Festival at MHS

*10/25/19: City of South Amboy and SAYO sponsored Halloween Dance for grades 5, 6 and 7 at the Senior Center is   cancelled and may be rescheduled.

*10/25/19: Deadline to register and submit all paperwork for winter sports.

*10/28/19: BOE meeting

*10/31/19: Student short session due to staff in-service training. Also, although it is Halloween, we will maintain our   school dress code. Please no costumes, make-up, face paint, masks, etc.

*11/7/19 & 11/8/19 Schools closed for NJEA conference

*11/11/19: School closed for Veterans' Day

*11/12/19: AP payment submission deadline

*11/20/19: PTO meeting at 6:30 pm in the MHS cafeteria.

*11/21/19 (eve)  and 11/22/19 (afternoon): Parent/Teacher conferences and student short sessions. Parent Access scheduling for conferences will be available next month.
