What's Happening at the MHS??? (Week of 2/18/19)

 Dear Parents/Guardians:

Some important happenings ta the MHS:

  • Administration had a midyear meeting with all grade levels last week. This was an opportunity to review our status as a school and the expectations we have for all students. This also allowed our new VP/AD, Mr. Zalocki, to address students in his new role. We covered a good number of items including: security procedures, timeliness to school and class, the importance of maintaining good attendance and various other school practices. We are asking our students to remove caps and hoods while in school and also limit their use of cellphones. We reminded them that recording (video and/or audio) is not permitted. Making or receiving calls during the school day is not allowed. Earphones or earbuds are also not permitted. One earbud may be used while students are in the cafeteria during lunch. Some of our teachers use cellphones as a teaching tool in the classroom; this is up to each teacher's discretion. Overall, we noted that our school is generally an orderly, well- behaved environment and our students conduct themselves appropriately.
  • Students taking the AP exam must complete and return your registration form to Mr. Zalocki by March 1st. Please include yourcheck with the form. Students needing a new registration form can see Mr. Zalocki.
  • Juniors: are you considering an internship next year? We have a working relationship with the the Municipal Office in South Amboy. We are also working on internship opportunities with the Elementary School. Want more info? Contact the guidance department. An internship provides hands-on experience in the world of work and also looks great on a resume.

  • Seniors and Parents of Seniors: We have begun planning the slide show for the 12th grade graduation. This is a big undertaking and in order for it to be a success we will need everyone's assistance. A link has been sent to all 12th grade students from senior, Michael Coman, a member of our slide show committee, via their school emails regarding the slideshow. The link will take students to an album where they will be able to upload all photos they wish to have in the slideshow. We are requesting that students put in a baby photo as well as one from this year. Also, we are asking for pictures from elementary school/sports/clubs, etc. All photos must be school appropriate. Any photos that are inappropriate will be removed. As Principal, I will be reviewing all submissions. All photos are due on April 15, 2019; please do not wait until then to submit.
  • The Student Council will be selling heart wrap-arounds for $1.00 at lunch periods during the month of February. All proceeds will go towards the American Heart Association.
  • Athletes - please read: Students interested in Spring athletics must complete, sign and return all documents provided in the links included in my weekly parent email by Feb. 28th. Note: All documents can be found on the South Amboy District Website under the "Athletics" section. Ms. Houseman, our school nurse, is in the process of checking physicals. Please send completed physicals to Ms. Houseman, and all other information to VP/AD Mr. Zalocki at your earliest convenience. (Important: You have the option of filling out all forms online through our registration link) Links for the above were included in my weekly parent email.
  • All Winter athletes must wash and return uniforms to Mr. Zalocki ASAP. (MS, JV and Varsity Basketball and MS & HS Cheer)
  • A Saint Patrick's Day Dance sponsored by the PTO has been scheduled for our high school students on March 14, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MHS cafeteria. Please see permission slip attached to my weekly parent email. Permission slip and ticket fee of $5.00 are due by March 11, 2019.
  • Looking ahead:
    • BOE meeting on 2/25/19
    • Interims for marking period three available the beginning of March.

If you have any questions, please call the school so we can assist you.

    Thank you,

    Dr. McCabe
