  2. Read p. 72 with the students. Review fiction (not true) and nonfiction (true events/really did happen)
  3. Read Meet the Authors on p. 73.  The first author wrote the story we will read today; and the second author wrote the story we will read on Monday.
  4. Read pages 74-77 together.  
  5. Answer Critical Thinking Questions 1 to 5 on page 77. (Due on Tuesday.  It will be collected.)
Monday, lesson plan for all classes:

  1. Read Background Information on page 78 of the teacher edition. (Top left of the page.)
  2. Read pages 79-84.  (Discuss how the story differs from Friday’s story. - Friday’s story was fiction; tells a funny story.  Today’s story is very scientific; tells of an actual case study; uses statistics.)

We went to the Media Center today.  Students had an opportunity to select novelsof interest to them. Students will be keeping a Reading Log for the month of March.  March is known as Reading Month.   Students are asked to read 15 minutes per day and have the log sheet signed of by a parent and turned in on Mondays during the month of March.  Students will receive an opportunity to earn a Rita's ice pass for reading and turning in the sheets on Mondays.  The student who reads the most number of minutes will receive a Barnes and Noble gift certificate.  Also, if students read five books by May they have a chance to earn an iPlay America pass.

2) We discussed the emergency procedures for lock down, shelter in place, and evacuation.

September 6, 2018

I hope everyone enjoyed the first day of school.  We discussed the guidelines and grading policy for Language Arts.  The last page needs to be signed by the student and parent/guardian and returned to me by Wednesday, September 12.  Students received a textbook today.  The textbook needs to be covered.  The students completed an Interest Survey worksheet today.  We discussed the Summer Reading Assignment.  If it is turned in by Friday, September 14, the student will receive extra credit.
