Policies and Procedures

Students are welcome in the Library Media Center with the following conditions: -a note from subject area teacher for specific academic purpose -attending a scheduled instruction with a subject area teacher -a Library Lunch Pass from the Cafeteria

Only the school nurse may provide an exception for a student to transit the LMC.


Quiet Areas are designated on either side of the circulation desk and in the relaxed seating area.


Instructional Space must be reserved via Google Calendar. (For planning purposes, please reserve  24-hours in advance.) The use of Chromebooks and/or co-teaching with the Library Media Specialist can also be scheduled using Google Calendar. Classes may not come to the Library Media Center unless accompanied by the classroom teacher. Substitutes may not bring classes to the Library Media Center, and classroom instruction is only available when the subject area teacher is present.


Book Loan period is three weeks.  Students may borrow books using their student i.d. number. A student may have 3 books checked out at any time.  Books must be returned using the Book Return at the circulation desk. Students will receive notice for overdue material through their homeroom teacher. Excessively overdue books or fines (over 1 month) will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges until the obligation is cleared.


If a book is damaged or lost, parents or guardians of the student will be charged the replacement cost of the item in accordance with the “Liability for Damage” policy in the student handbook.  


Due to our limited selection, students are urged to obtain a library card from the Sadie Pope Dowdell Public Library.


Food is not permitted. Students and staff can enjoy their own covered beverages in the Library Media Center.
