Student Council will be hosting a car wash Tuesday at the board of education parking lot. It will be from 3:30-5. Please come out to support raising money for senior scholarships!

Are you feeling stressed? Please come join the NJHS for our Mental Health Day Event. We will practice breathing exercises and meditation. We will be in the Court Yard May 4th directly after school. Bring a beach towel or yoga mat if you don't like sitting directly on the grass. We will reschedule if it rains.

The Class of 2023 is having a very important meeting on Monday, May 2nd. We will be discussing prom and fundraisers. Please attend.

Juniors, please see the email sent out yesterday regarding running for student representative to the Board of Education. This is a very important role. Applications are due by Wednesday, 5/4/2022.

The Junior Class will be selling an assortment of Ice Creams, Drinks and Snacks after school every Friday at both entrances. Ice Cream is $2, snacks and drinks are $1. Please support our class.

The middle school softball team won against Dunellen yesterday with a score of 15-3. Hits were scattered by Janeece B. and Sophia H. including a home run by Gwen K., a triple by Bella P. and doubles by Reagan R. and Taylor S. Dani K. struck out 3 batters on the mound.

Student Council will be running a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse today. See a student council member or Mr. Hughes for a flyer! The money raised goes towards senior scholarships.

There will be a Student Council meeting Thursday after school in Mr. Hughes' room. All members should attend.

Over the break the track team competed in two meets. At the Cherokee night of 3200s, James Jamolawicz smashed his PR for 2 miles by a minute and a half in the best race of his career. Guin Kennedy also lowered her PR in a great race. Joe Jamolawicz and Jack Smith also ran well. At the Georgian Court University Challenge, Joe Jamolawicz placed 6th in the 1600 meters and Jack Smith turned in a great performance in the 2000 meter steeple Chase to establish a new school record in the event. Freshmen Jimmy Mercado, Gavin Rubin and Thomas Cannon also ran well in the Steeple Chase setting new PRs. In the 400 meters, Rafael Albarran returned to form with an amazing performance smashing his own PR for the event and breaking a school record that has stood since 2016.

The Boys Tennis Team has played 4 matches in the last 9 days and have shown signs of improvement. The play of Jake wells, Davey Cheng and Joel Diaz {the high school's GMC Sportsmanship award winner] at singles has dramatically gotten better. Joel picked up his first win against South River while Davey lost a close one to St. Thomas. Coach G wants to applaud these young men for playing a tough sport which had to be learned from scratch. Anyone else, especially seventh and eighth graders, who would like to learn more about the tennis team contact Coach G. or see Captain Davey Cheng.

The Middle School Softball Team won against South River yesterday 16-0. Sophia H. pitched a no hitter and had 4 strikeouts. Taylor S. had a home run and a grand slam while Gwen K. and Dani K. each hit doubles and Reagan R. hit a triple. Singles were scattered by Sophia H., Erin J. and Bella P. who went 4 for 4. Great job ladies!

The Middle School baseball team won 7-2 on Monday. They were led by a strong pitching performance from Jack Clements and RBI’s from 7 different players in a whole team effort. Micah Nemeth scored 2 runs and closed out the game on the mound. Their next game will be at Dunellen on Wednesday.

The boys tennis team had its finest outing of the season. our #1 singles player Jake Wells won his match in straight sets 6-3,7-5. Bedo, yes Abdul, won at 3rd singles 6-1 6-0. We have been struggling this season but coach wants to congratulate his team for giving it their all. Any 8th grade boys looking to play next year should see the captain Davey Cheng and let him know.

On Wednesday before the break, the Varsity Softball team defeated Mother Seton by a score of 15-6. Evalise Perez recorded the win on the mound with 9 strikeouts and completely shutting down their offense. The lady Govs scored 8 runs in the bottom of the third behind the strong bats of Brianna Sweatt who had three hits and Emma Kalantsis and Maggie Whiteley each had two hits. Jada Berry, Evalise Perez, Iyanni Twiggs and Kayla Buchanan also each had a hit to help secure the win. Way to go girls! Keep the momentum going.

The Varsity Baseball team picked up a huge win against rival Perth Amboy Tech before the break in a 6 inning mercy rule. Freshman Jeremy Vazquez stole the show hitting an in the park grand glam home run and tallying 7 RBIs. Ben Hernandez shined at the plate going 5 for 5 with 5 RBIs capped off with a two run home run in the 6th inning.

There will be a presentation for seniors period seven today in the auditorium. Seniors should report to their period seven class and wait to be called down. Mayor Henry will be presenting on voting: how to register, the eligibility requirements, the role of a citizen, and why voting is important.

A reminder that school is closed tomorrow for spring break. We will return to school on Monday, April 25, 2022. Enjoy the time off.

Mrs. Sanchez and Ms. Jimenez are absent today. Please turn in all Prom Permission slips and money, today is the deadline, to Mrs. Martinez in the Main Office. Please email Ms. Jimenez or Mrs. Sanchez if you have any questions.

A reminder: students may not enter any restroom without having first signed in. If there is no monitor by a restroom, students should not enter. All restrooms are closed during the changing of classes. The restrooms by the cafeteria are also closed when lunches are moving in the middle of the period from the cafeteria to the auditorium.

The Prom is coming on Thursday, May 26th, and we are excited to see you all there. Permission forms are available in Room 113 and 114, please see Ms. Jimenez or Mrs. Sanchez. Completed permission forms and fees are due tomorrow to Mrs. Jimenez or Mrs. Sánchez.

The Class of 2027 are selling Flower Grams from now until April 12th! For $2 you can send your friends a lovely flower with a sweet message to celebrate spring as we start Spring Break. Forms were given out in homeroom and you can find extras in Room 215 or Room 219. Please return them and the money to Ms. Amari or Ms. Robinson.

The middle school softball team improved their record to 2-1 with a big win against Sayreville yesterday. The team had multiple hits from Reagan R., Gwen K., Olivia R. including homeruns from Taylor S. and Sophia H. Bella P. had a triple and struck out 12 batters. Great job girls!

Students in grade 6, 7, and 8, please complete the survey Dr. McCabe emailed you yesterday. It was from John Tessitore who provided the presentation on Monday.

Today juniors and seniors will have the Legends presentation periods one and two in the auditorium, freshmen and sophomores will have the presentation periods seven and eight. Please wait to be called down.

The National Honor Society is currently selling candy bunny bracelets for $1 each which includes a gift tag. Order one for a friend, a teacher or yourself. Delivery will be during homeroom on Thursday, April 14. See a NHS member or Ms. Kovacs in room 103 for more information or to order.

We have Legends training today for grades six and seven during periods one and two, and grade eight during periods seven and eight. Students should wait to be called down.
