Parents please read - incident on 5/25/18
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today a student posted a note on a locker that was political in nature. It referenced school shootings. This was following a recent trend on the internet that begins with, "If I die in a school shooting".

Once this was discovered by our staff, we called a shelter-in-place and notified the South Amboy Police Department.

Our school worked with the SAPD to assess the matter, identify those involved and then appropriate actions were taken. All protocols were followed and the SAPD determined the note was not a threat, but political in nature.

Once the shelter-in-place was lifted, a school-wide assembly was called and all students and staff were addressed by administration.

The importance of safety was emphasized as well as the danger involved with making political statements that cause alarm.  Administration reviewed alternative avenues to make statements such as the recent assembly our students developed and conducted titled: "Remembering the 17".

Our goal is to educate our students in a safe environment. We want to help them understand the appropriate methods to express their concerns.

Please take a moment to speak with your child regarding the importance of this matter.

I want to thank the South Amboy Police Department for their support during this incident.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.

Thank you,
Dr. McCabe
Principal
